2. Scope and Applicable Law

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we collect through this website. We comply with the Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand), including the Information Privacy Principles (IPPs). Where you access the site from outside New Zealand, local privacy laws may also apply.

3. Personal Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of personal information when you interact with our website:

  • Contact form information: your name, email address, message content, and confirmation that you agree to our privacy terms when you submit an inquiry.
  • Cookie and consent records: your cookie category choices and the date of consent, stored in your browser (local storage).
  • Usage information: aggregated or de-identified data about how visitors use the site, collected only if you consent to analytics cookies.
  • Technical information: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring URL, and pages viewed, collected automatically for security and basic site operation.

We collect personal information only where it is necessary for a lawful purpose connected with our functions or activities (IPP 1). We do not collect sensitive information unless required and permitted by law.

4. How We Use Personal Information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  • To respond to messages sent through the contact form.
  • To operate, maintain, and secure the website.
  • To understand site usage and improve content, where you have consented to analytics cookies.
  • To measure advertising performance, where you have consented to marketing cookies.
  • To meet legal and regulatory obligations in New Zealand.

We will not use your personal information for a purpose that is inconsistent with the purpose for which it was collected, unless an exception under the Privacy Act applies (for example, with your authorisation or where required by law).

5. Collection Notice

When you submit the contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message so we can reply to your inquiry. Providing this information is voluntary, but we cannot respond without it. By submitting the form and ticking the privacy consent box, you authorise us to collect and use your information for that purpose.

6. Disclosure of Personal Information

We do not sell or rent personal information. We may disclose information to:

  • Service providers who host the website, provide email delivery, analytics, or advertising tools, solely to perform services for us and subject to confidentiality obligations.
  • Regulators, courts, or law enforcement where required by New Zealand law.

Before disclosing personal information to overseas recipients (IPP 12), we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient protects the information in a way that, overall, provides comparable safeguards to the Privacy Act, or we disclose only with your authorisation or as otherwise permitted by law.

7. Retention

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy:

  • Contact inquiries: up to 12 months after your matter is resolved, unless a longer period is required for legal or dispute purposes.
  • Cookie consent records: until you clear browser storage or withdraw consent.
  • Analytics data: up to 26 months where analytics tools are used and you have consented.

We securely delete or de-identify information when it is no longer required.

8. Security

We take reasonable safeguards to protect personal information from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, or disclosure (IPP 5). Measures include HTTPS encryption, access controls, and periodic review of our security practices. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Rights Under the Privacy Act 2020

You have the right to:

  • Access personal information we hold about you (IPP 6), subject to grounds for refusal set out in the Privacy Act.
  • Request correction of personal information you believe is inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading (IPP 7).
  • Withdraw consent for optional processing (such as analytics or marketing cookies), without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

To make a request, contact us using the details in section 1. We will respond within a reasonable time and, where practicable, within 20 working days as encouraged under the Privacy Act. We may need to verify your identity before releasing information.

10. Privacy Breaches

If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will assess the breach and, where required, notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and affected individuals in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 notifiable privacy breach scheme.

11. Cookies and Online Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy. Optional analytics and marketing cookies are used only with your consent via our cookie banner.

12. Children

This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate parental or guardian consent.
